Overview.

Precautions and Interactions

- Anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin) – may increase risk of bleeding
- Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors (e.g. lisinopril) may increase the risk of hyperkalemia (increased potassium levels)
- Diuretics (e.g., furosemide) – may increase risk of hyperkalemia
- Methotrexate – May increase the risk of methotrexate toxicity.
- Phenytoin – may decrease the efficacy of sulfamethasone/ trimethoprim 800/160 mg TB
- Oral hypoglycemic agents or insulin – may increase risk of hypoglycemia
- Rifampin – may decrease efficacy of sulfamethasone/ trimethoprim 800/160 mg TB
Sulfonylureas may increase risk of hypoglycemia
It is important to complete a full course of sulfamethasone/trimethoprim 800/160 mg TB, even if you begin to feel worse than others. Do not stop taking the medication without consulting your health care provider.
Do not be exposed to the sun or sunbathe for long periods of time while taking Sulfamta/Trimethoprim 800/160 mg TB, as this may increase your risk of sunburn.
