How to Use Clindamycin Phosphate Gel (Topical)
This drink should only be used on the skin. First clean and dry the affected area. Follow all instructions on the product package or use as directed by a physician.
If using lotion, shake the bottle before application. Apply a thin layer of the medication, usually twice daily, or as directed by a physician.
If a pharmaceutical compress or cotton swab is used, apply it lightly to the affected area and discard. Depending on the size of the area to be treated, more than one napkin or tampon may be needed.
If using foam, apply to the affected area once daily. Use enough to cover the entire affected area. Do not spray foam directly onto hands or person, as contact with warm skin will cause the foam to dissolve. Instead, spray a significant amount into the lid or onto a cool surface such as a table top. If the can feels warm or the foam feels watery, expose the can to cold water. For specific instructions on how to apply the foam, read the package leaflet available from your pharmacist and ask for any information that is unclear.
Avoid contact with the eyes, nose, mouth, and skin. If the drug accidentally gets on these areas, rinse thoroughly with large amounts of cold water.
It may take 2-6 months to notice improvement in symptoms and up to 12 months for full effect.
Notify your physician if symptoms do not improve or worsen.
