A barium swallow and also known as the esophagus, provides imaging analysis to test for problems in the upper gastrointestinal tract. Your upper gastrointestinal tract includes your mouth, the rear lobes of the larynx, the digestive tract, the stomach, and the first lobes of the small intestine. This test uses a special type of x-ray imaging called Fluoroscopy. Fluoroscopy shows the internal organs moving in real time.
